Your tour of little Africa and its heritage
Have you heard of samba, jongo, macumba, capoeira, feijoada, quilombos? Do you know what those things have in common? They were all influences from Africa. Did you know Rio de Janeiro alone received more people during the African slavery than the whole USA? During the renovation of the harbor area of Rio for the Olympics, we discovered some important archaeological sites related to our African ancestors. In this tour, we will walk around the harbor area with you to provide insights into our African-related heritage in Brazil, going from history to spirituality. From slavery times to the samba celebrations of today, this is a great experience to understand the formation of Brazil’s society, culture, and folklore.
